Metrology Laboratory

Metrology Laboratory

In CMM the Measurement and inspection of industrial precision components to the industries using CNC type 3-D Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). Measurement accuracy of ±2+L/350µm, maximum part size of X-500mm , Y-600mm and Z-400mm, Renishaw probing system and CNC controlled granite guide ways ensure thermal dimensional torsional and geometric stability of the machine. In Metrology laboratory, following equipments are generally available surface plate, angle plate, vernier caliper, vernier height gauge, vernier depth gauge, inside & outside micrometer, snap gauges, ring gauges, plug gauges, feeler gauges, radius gauges, pitch screw gauges, slip gauge set, dial indicator, sine bar, angle gauge set, auto collimator, floating carriage micro meter, optical comparator, tool maker micro scope, optical profile projector, gear tooth vernier and surface finish measuring instrument. This laboratory covers areas of linear & angular measurements, limits, fits and gauges, comparators, screw thread measurements, gear measurements, surface finish measurements.

Students should observe these instruments carefully and study the operation of each instrument and their detailed specifications. Proper care should be taken while handling these instruments. The Metrology laboratory is expected to maintain at 20°C temperature conditions. The parameter for surface finish measurement prescribed in the standards is based on stylus type instrument. We have Surface roughness tester with the accuracy of 3.79 micron by the Mitutoyo make. The profile projector magnifies of the specimen, and displays this on the build in projection screen. On this screen there is typically a grid that can be rotated by 360 degrees so the X-Y axis of the screen can be aligned with a straight edge of the machined part to examine or measure.
